steps needed to download a design

could someone give me step by step instructions in downloading an embroidery file correctly..some of the downloads we have been receiving from our digitizer open with different PATTERNS throughout the design we initially have them in a dst file and now he is sending them in an exp file and the details are still incorrect HELP??? if possible you can call me at 1-508-533-5080 thanks
